I'm afraid I can't answer your last question. I only seem to have two pieces of software that can render MathML: Firefox and Eclipse. Firefox does not have this problem, as it doesn't italicize parenthesis in
<mi>
elements (although the issue of semantics stands).
Perhaps a compromise would be to use the <mo>
(operator) element for plain parenthesis? They are operators, after all. This would be more semantically correct while still producing the intended style in Eclipse (ie, non-italicized).25 Jun 14, 10:51PM
