Equation displaying incorrectly when using a gif image
I am a systems administrator for a University and I primarily support our Learning Management System, Instructure Canvas. They use TinyMCE with the equation editor plugin and I have a professor who has ran into an issue due to the image format of the returned equation.

When I use the equation
2\exp(e^x)
I get barY, this is using the default gif format. If I change the image format to png the equation renders fine, but I can't change the options to show the correct equation in this post to show the correct rendering.

Is it even a possibility to change the image format to png? It may be difficult for us as that would need to be changed at the system level which could cause other issues that could affect others using Instructure.

Thanks, Tyler Clair

The Codecogs equation service has been radically updated and in addition we have migrated to a new series of servers in order to ensure that it is more robust with no possibility of failure. The issue you identified above was actually due to a failed hard-drive on one of our servers, and unfortunately its take a lot of investigative work to figure this out. Nevertheless, the newly generated equations now have an additional check-sum added to them, which should make the possibility of two different equations having the same cache ID extremely remote.
